How to Tell Which Key Revision a Keyset Carries

The revision a keyset carries is a property of the material inside it, not a label on the outside. That is why this site records revisions only when they have been confirmed, and shows “not published” otherwise.

Start from provenance

Begin with where the keyset came from. A keyset generated from your own hardware at a known moment has a knowable context; one obtained elsewhere does not.

Reason about generations

Revisions are organised by generation. Establishing which generations are present is more reliable than trying to name a single revision number.

Confirm rather than assume

If a value cannot be confirmed, treat it as unknown. The versions hub is the place this site records confirmed values.
