Symptom: the firmware relationship recorded for a keyset does not match the environment it is being used in.

Firmware establishes which key generations exist, so a mismatch here is upstream of everything else. Diagnosing it means establishing which of the two is out of date.

Likely causes

  • Keyset generated before a firmware update. The environment has moved on; the keyset has not.
  • Record based on an older firmware level. The relationship field describes the past, which is only a problem if it is read as current.
  • Two environments conflated. A keyset generated on one system used against another.

How to confirm

Compare the firmware relationship recorded for the keyset — where one has been recorded — against the environment in use. Where no relationship has been recorded, the field reads “not published — verify on your own hardware”: confirm it yourself rather than assuming.

Where this connects

The mechanism is explained in the firmware guide, and the downstream effect in the compatibility hub. For the closely-related case where the failure is explicitly about a generation, see unsupported revision.
